hanna_articleSince opening its doors in November 2008, Hanna Art Space in Ubud has established a vibrant presence. Featuring monthly exhibitions with senior and new Indonesian as well as Foreign Artists in group and solo showings of sculpture and other fine art media. Owned by Jakarta Art appreciate and collector Paul Hadiwinata and managed by the dynamic Nico F.K, together their initiative is to re-invigorate the Modern and Contemporary Art Scene in Ubud.

Located on Jalan Raya Pengosekan, Hanna Art Space’s philosophy is about creating structures based on co-operation and support between the gallery, the artist and the art buyers. It is necessary to develop relationships derived on communication, responsibility and trust so that art and artists’ careers may be successfully received by the various types of enthusiasts that make up the art community. With a platform founded on careful management, the artist along with the Gallery may grow and move forward together.

“Our challenge is to be as good as the other senior Modern and Contemporary Galleries in Bali. This process involves many facets, as well as introducing new artists into the market place, creative marketing and communications are essential,” reveals Hanna’s manager Nico F.K. “I am very passionate about art and people! This is a business built on relationships, I enjoy the energy of meeting and interacting with the growing art community.”

“Understanding the art market involves the investment of much time in appreciating the different levels of the market that co-exist equally. Buyers from the alternative price brackets have differing needs requiring varying interactions by our staff,” says Nico. Hanna Art Space caters for the art enthusiasts to the dealer and collectors both nationally and internationally. Recent developments with Mexican, Australian and Japanese Galleries highlight the emerging popularity of Indonesian Contemporary Art globally.

Nurturing associations with galleries and the art community in Surabaya and Jakarta is also an extremely important focus. Being a new presence in the marketplace involves providing a unique stimulus, new art, energy and ideas, an alternative in the market in the competitive Indonesian art capital, Jakarta. Hanna Art Space is aware of the need to increase their exposure via the media and also holding regular events in the capital and plans by the end of this year to open a new gallery in Jakarta.

Hanna’s most recent exhibition, ‘Bali from Beyond’, was a group showing by 20 foreign artists who’s creativity has been inspired as a direct consequence of their time living in Bali. Presented are works of fine art photography, a book, digital technology computer images as well as the conventional styles of fine art in sculpture and painting expressed in figurative and abstract genres. This event featured works by senior ‘Foreign Masters’, Rolf Bonnet, Arie Smit and Hans Snell. Highlights included Australian painter Linda Buller’s spontaneous abstract canvases, Englishman Bruce Sherratt’s powerful surrealist creation, Canadian Stephen Max Reinhold’s colorful digital photographic precision, Australian Steven Barwell’s expressionist Dadaism book of writing and drawing and the 94 year old legendary Dutchman Arie Smit’s latest landscape painting. The opening night was attended by more than 400 people proving to be Hanna’s most successful event to date.

“The positive responses received from both the local and International art community in supporting the running of many differing art events has been outstanding, as a new gallery we are encouraged and extremely grateful!” expresses Nico.

Hanna’s Art Space’s next event, titled ‘Superheroes’ will be held in late May featuring 9 talented young Balinese contemporary artists, including Gede Darmawan, Komang Agus and Komang Sedana Putra show casing environmentally themed paintings.
