Gaya Fusion is dedicated to its vision: To integrate art with life. Their dedication has materialized into its being recognized as one of the leading modern and contemporary art galleries in Indonesia. Originally established in 1999 as ‘Gaya Art Space’, the central characteristic of the complex is its remarkably beautiful architectural structure that contains a fine food restaurant upstairs and a spacious art gallery below.
The owners, Italian Stefano Grandi and Balinese Nyoman Bibirit, have formed an allegiance based on a commitment to assimilation and evolution. This union fuses together Indonesian creative expression with contemporary Western influences. Italy meets Bali….equals style! Now Gaya Fusion may boast 5 unique components; the Restaurant and Lounge, Art Space, Villas and Spa, Ceramic and Design and Gelato all complete with their signature ambience and elegance.
Situated in Jalan Raya Sayan, just outside of Ubud, the exotic nature of the complex also features contemporary landscaped gardens allowing ample area for Art installations, out-door sculpture and event openings which often include performance. The uniqueness of the design immediately inspires curiosity to visitors and passers by alike. The atmosphere is tuned to creating both a vibrant and distinctive personal engagement in contemporary creative expression, via art, architecture and more. Comprehensive and expert services, including product designers, ceramic consultancy, installations and productions, are also available to the public.
This not for profit Gallery has become known for their contribution and support of contemporary Avant Garde artistic creations. Previous exhibitions included: video installations, combinations of poetry, paintings and installations, floor to ceiling murals, indoor and outdoor sculptural installations and recently, ‘action painting’ accompanied with live music. A number of the gallery artists have represented Indonesia at the Venice Biennale in Italy, one of the most highly regarded global art festivals. Leading Balinese Artist Made Wianta exhibited his masterpiece ‘Dreamland’ at Gaya before presenting it at the Biennale in 2008. Javanese Dadang Christianto’s first solo exhibition was at Gaya also prior to displaying his work in Venice.
Gaya Fusion has become renowned for its exhibition openings with attendances being regularly over 300 people. These events focus on group and solo shows by senior Indonesian Artists, such as Made Wianta, Agus Sawage, Ida Bagus Indra, Made Sumadiyasa and Ugo Untoro as well as famous international Artists such as Peter Dittmar, Fillopo SciaScia and Wang Hua Xiang. Gaya Fusion’s intention is to bring together interesting people from around the world in a synergy of creative expression.
Gaya Fusion’s cuisine philosophy is: Cooking is Art. Mediterranean and Asian flavors intermingle intelligently in original dishes that are created from fresh local organic produce. Dishes may be savored while admiring Gaya’s art and ceramic collection in the restaurant.
Six stunning villas with a large communal lounge and swimming pool spoil guests with refined luxury. Situated over looking a lush tropical river canyon, the villas and Gaya Spa are located directly behind the main complex. Art, sculpture, ceramics and modern architecture are a combination that adds to the seduction of the ‘Gaya’ experience!
Gaya Fusion also hosts retreats, art groups and residencies, regular art house movies, workshops, free Sunday children’s art programs, book launches, film events in Jakarta, Tango Classes, music and live performances as well as private functions. Before you leave Gaya Fusion, if you have yet to be tempted by the restaurants menu, you MUST treat yourself to the Gelato. They also home deliver! At Gaya Fusion you may truly indulge all of the senses.
