Mission and Vision
The Starfish Language Centre provides Balinese children and adults from underprivileged families access to language programs, thereby significantly enhancing their job prospects.
As part of a non-profit organization ‘Tri Hita Karana Bali’, Starfish Language Centre offers free English classes to Balinese children.
Professionally trained English Teachers, mostly native speakers come from all over the world and volunteer to teach the local community. As Balinese children enroll in free English courses, adults can also register and participate in English, French or Japanese in both private or conversation classes. Lessons have a modest fee attached to them or are free depending on the economical status of each family.
To subsidize the costs of free English classes, Starfish Language Centre offers paid Indonesian, French and Japanese language courses to travelers and members of the local expatriate community.
As one of the only two language schools in Bali with western teachers and the only one affordable to local people, Starfish Language Centre was enthusiastically approached by owners of some of Ubuds’ businesses and asked to train their staff. At the beginning of 2010, the school successfully launched training programs in Business English targeting local businesses.
The Starfish Language Centre is located in Ubud, Bali, often referred to as the artistic centre of Bali. With the constant influx of tourists, the need to communicate in English and other languages is essential in seeking employment; tourism tends to be the only option for sustaining the lives of many families.
